Training and resources for psychologists

As a psychologist, gambling harm minimisation may not be your area of expertise. It can be challenging to talk to someone about how gambling impacts their life and the people close to them, especially when mental health may be a factor. The knowledge you gain from evidence-based training and resources will help your conversations and interventions to have positive outcomes.

Date: 26 May 2025

This webinar is hosted by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and provides psychologists with the opportunity to increase their understanding of gambling harm and learn how to identify it in clinical practice and apply evidence-based treatment strategies to effectively support their clients.

Participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the prevalence and impact of gambling harm
  • Identify common psychological and mental health considerations in the assessment, treatment and management of people experiencing gambling harm
  • Identify evidence-based resources and support organisations to inform practice when working with people experiencing gambling harm.

The webinar is approved for 1.5 Continuing Professional Development hours for registered psychologists. A recording is available on the APS website.

Funded by the Office of Responsible Gambling, this practice guide provides psychologists with information to increase their understanding of gambling harm, learn how to identify it in clinical practice, and apply-evidence-based treatment strategies to effectively support their clients.

Check out the Practice Guide on the APS website.
