New contracts for GambleAware services
GambleAware service providers have been appointed following a competitive tender process for service delivery from 1 July 2026.
Under the new contracts, there will be an additional $1.3 million in annual funding which will increase the number of peer support workers. Peer workers play a key role, offering support grounded in lived experience alongside the support available from gambling and financial counsellors.
One of those peer support workers is Dean Dries, a proud Wiradjuri man who supports the Northern Sydney and Central Coast regions. Dean speaks openly about turning to gambling as a teenager to cope with isolation, and how it eventually became a significant burden for him and his family. After reconnecting with support through GambleAware, he rebuilt his life and now uses that experience to guide others. His approach is centred on honest conversations, practical strategies and helping people recognise small steps forward.
“Recovery is not easy… but if you’re aware of your actions, you can take action and walk away".
