Quick reference guide – gambling harm: how pharmacists can help
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) has produced a Quick Reference Guide that provides evidence-based information to support pharmacists in recognising, responding to and referring people at risk of gambling harm. It serves as a practical, point-of-care resource that embeds harm minimisation strategies into everyday pharmacy practice.
The quick reference guide:
- Summarises key signs and risk factors of gambling harm relevant to pharmacy settings
- Highlights medicine-related considerations, such as dopamine agonists associated with impulse-control disorders
- Provides practical prompts to guide sensitive, non-judgmental conversations
- Outlines referral pathways and support services, including GambleAware
- Includes tips for trauma-informed communication

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) flyer aims to raise awareness of gambling harm and encourage help-seeking among the general community by supporting individuals to start the conversation with pharmacists.
