This webinar is hosted by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and provides pharmacists with information to increase their understanding of gambling harm, available screening tools and referral pathways for people who need support.

Webinar attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify the evolution of gambling behaviours and their impact on individuals, families, and communities.
  2. Discuss how gambling harm affects health outcomes, including links to prescribed medications, and the role of pharmacists in fostering early intervention.
  3. Describe strategies to reduce gambling stigma, promote inclusive dialogue and create a supportive, culturally sensitive pharmacy environment that encourages help-seeking behaviour.
  4. Discuss the use of appropriate screening tools to identify people who will benefit from gambling support services.
  5. Discuss the use of referral pathways to connect patients with relevant support services, ensuring timely intervention and providing ongoing follow-up support

The webinar is approved for 1.5 hours of Group 1 Continuing Professional Development (or 1.5 CPD credits) for pharmacists, which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) has produced a Quick Reference Guide that provides evidence-based information to support pharmacists in recognising, responding to and referring people at risk of gambling harm. It serves as a practical, point-of-care resource that embeds harm minimisation strategies into everyday pharmacy practice.

The quick reference guide:

  • Summarises key signs and risk factors of gambling harm relevant to pharmacy settings
  • Highlights medicine-related considerations, such as dopamine agonists associated with impulse-control disorders
  • Provides practical prompts to guide sensitive, non-judgmental conversations
  • Outlines referral pathways and support services, including GambleAware
  • Includes tips for trauma-informed communication

Check out the Quick Reference Guide on the PSA website.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) flyer aims to raise awareness of gambling harm and encourage help-seeking among the general community by supporting individuals to start the conversation with pharmacists.
